I am using 0.48 pre 1.

There is an output option for bitmapped output but what format is it?
I can think of half a dozen. I am looking for tiff.

Inkscape exports to PNG (using 'File > Export Bitmap...')
and saves as 'Cairo PNG' (limited support of SVG features, uses an
(experimental) backend of cairo, for testing cairo-based export in
Inkscape)

Support for other raster formats for export has been requested and is
tracked here:

Bug #171390 in Inkscape: “Extended Raster export support please”:

The code to export to any bitmap that gtkimage supports is in there, I
just haven't had a chance to hook up a ui.

With the issues that bzr seems to have on my system doubt I will anytime
soon either.
