I am still using .46 as I find it easier for some of the effects I want
to get. Is there any way I can test the new version and still keep .46
on my computer to use ?

regards,
Joanne

Depends which OS you are using. You could install Ubuntu on a USB
stick and install Inkscape .48 on that. Or on Windows just install and
do a system rollback if you don't like the new version.

Compile it but don't do a make install. Run inkscape .48 from inside
the src directory. Or run ./configure --prefix=~/inkscape0.48 && make
&& make install and you will find inkscape in ~/inkscape0.48/bin.

On win it's much easier to just dl the zip version and have it in a
separate folder that u can delete than mess about with system rollback.

Hmm, so it will run in userspace. I didn't know that. I find it can
be very useful having programs that can do that.
