Forum: Inkscape manual text kerning in 0.47

Dear all,

I am teaching myself Inkscape (0.47) under Linux (Ubuntu 9.10).
So today I looked at manual text kerning, but it just doesn't work, even
though I am faithfully following instructions I found online.

So, I created some text, double-clicked it, and moved in between single
letters. Then I tried Alt-RightArrowKey, and nothing happens. Same thing
with the other arrow keys. Shift-Alt-ArrowKeys also no luck. Needless to
say, rotating can't be done either.

Am I doing sth. wrong here, or is that a bug?
